East Devon U15s v West Devon U15s 2011
East Devon Under 15s v West Devon Under 15s

Sunday 8th May, Bicton College

East Devon 178-5 (A Chilcott 43*, H Parkin 41) beat West Devon 175-9 (D Ackford 82*; P Singh 3-20, I Thomas 2-28) by 5 wickets

Heavy overnight rain threatened to put a stop to the game, but early morning sunshine and a great effort by the groundsman produced a good wicket.

West won the toss and batted – a sensible decision with only 10 men in the side.  The openers cracked on and, helped by some extras, were on 35 in the 9th over before the first wicket fell.  David Ackford then batted through the innings as wickets fell around him, picking up the pace at the end to finish on a creditable 82 n.o..  He shared an 8th wicket stand of 68 with Gothwhite (7).  It was not a day for much pace on the ball and East soon turned to spin.  Parminder Singh tied the West batsman up with a controlled 10 overs of  off-spin.  He finished with a commendable 3 for 20.  He was supported mainly by Thomson(1) and Thomas (2).  East will wonder whether the chase could have been easier had extras (30) not been the second top scorer.

East also started quickly, with Parkin (41) showing a good range of shots against some hostile bowling from Williams.  Choules nudged and nurdled against the slower pace bowlers, whilst Chilcott played a wonderfully measured innings for his team finishing on 43 n.o..  When Choules was out Maxwell decided he was there to entertain and cracked a quick fire 20.

Parminder Singh and Ali Chilcott shared the East man of the match award, whilst David Ackford was the only real contender for West man of the match.
